Wood has been capped 65 times for the New Zealand national team and scored 33 goals to become New Zealand men's leading goal scorer, overtaking previous holder Vaughan Coveny.
Wood began his senior career with Cambridge FC, scoring on his debut in the NRFL Division 2 in 2006 aged just 14, and after a spell at local rivals Hamilton Wanderers the following season in the NRFL Premier, he attracted the attention of ASB Premiership club Waikato FC. [edit].
